A Year of Blogging, a Year More Developed

Today is the 11 year anniversary of the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Centre.

And for that, I will give a line of silence. [I would give more if wordpress would let me]

 .

However, more relevant, today is the 1 year anniversary of the inauguration of my blog.

It’s also a very interesting topic as I have recently come across discussions about introversion and extroversion. One of the reasons I started writing a blog was to try to balance myself from being such an introvert at the time. It’s now been a year, and almost 40 posts later, it has changed me.

In our modern society, extroverts are much more likely to exceed. In my field of study, being able to voice one’s idea and be outgoing is a valuable asset. People hear you more, notice you more, and overall, you stand out more. I don’t expect to flip myself completely and become an extrovert. I would never imagine doing so. I’m a reserved individual with my own thoughts and ideas, and it’s not something that should be thrown away. Introverted individuals can be far more focused, with stronger willpower and drive, and are more likely to develop deeper over time.

I’m not advocating for either or, but there are benefits to both. And it serves well to be able to master aspects of both. [to what is reasonable].

Society is society. Just because I live in society doesn’t mean that I have to allow myself to be governed by it. It is a necessary part of both myself, that I choose to define myself.

I won’t accept lying on this introvert/extrovert one-dimensional scale. I mean to lie on it in a two dimension plane, where being introverted and extroverted is not mutually exclusive, but having the ability and freedom to move in and around this space as needed to mirror the styles of others, and be able to seamlessly converse and emphasize with an ever-growing subset of individuals. [I apologize for all the math references.]

So that’s today’s lesson of the day.

Isolate something that you identify as a weakness for you, and make a plan to improve it. But most importantly, you’ve gotta stick with your plan. The first two weeks are likely to be the hardest, and then after that, once it’s a bit more routine, it’s a bit easier. It’s like trying to start a car engine in the dead of winter, or pushing a cart hard enough it gets some rolling momentum. Life is a lot like that. Sometimes it takes some time to work out the kinks, but once it get’s running, it’ll run.

It’s not the start of the year, but it’s never too late to make new resolutions.

  1. [insert line of silence for 9-11]

Congratz on 1 year of blogging!!! :) Celebrate with actual food instead of res food…jkjk. (I was going to do this topic eventually too…hehe) A goal for my first year is to be more extrovert but I still like being an introvert :D Just need to find the fine line between them is the challenging part.
